MARYLAND INSTITUTE COLLEGE OF ART MOVES IDENTITY MANAGEMENT
TO THE CLOUD
Fischer International’s Identity as a Service® Cloud Chosen for Reliability, Value,
Peace of Mind
Naples, FL (February 21, 2012) -- Fischer International Identity, LLC, a visionary leader in the identity management market, announced today that Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) has successfully moved into production the Fischer Identity as a Service® (IaaS®) solution for user provisioning and password management. Fischer IaaS® provisions accounts and privileges for MICA’s students, faculty and staff, including the resources needed for each individual class. The solution has already significantly reduced calls to the help desk for password resets.
According to Susan Miltenberger, Associate Vice President for Technology, MICA replaced another vendor’s solution after just one year because Fischer IaaS® provides a very forward-thinking solution with robust self service and no need for coding. “It’s a better value for what we’re spending, especially with the flexibility we get from Fischer’s Student FTE pricing. We chose Fischer’s cloud-based solution because Fischer’s availability and reliability are better than most institutions can deliver themselves and it enables our IT staff to concentrate on high-value academic projects. We’ve also been very pleased that Fischer has become a great partner that is focused on the relationship, something we see as unique among vendors.”
Fischer IaaS® has improved the timeliness of MICA’s user provisioning, which will eliminate the challenge where some late-arriving adjunct faculty could not access teaching systems on their first day of classes. The solution provides a secure mechanism for distributing new accounts, which improves MICA’s FERPA compliance. It also provides a flexible process to have users enter answers to challenge questions so that they can securely reset forgotten passwords. Fischer IaaS® tracks who has access to each resource and will automatically de-provision accounts and privileges when they are no longer needed. MICA plans to extend the Fischer solution to additional audiences such as alumni and accepted applicants, additional target systems, and provide more granularity for provisioning privileges.
